Women Don’t Like 3 Minute Men, How About 4 Minutes?

Posted in Full Body on the September 29, 2007

Actually taking a minute to laugh at my own headline, the real question should be, can I complete a quality workout in only 4 minutes. The answer to that question is yes. It may not be long enough of a workout to test your body to the limit as a one hour session, but a lot can be accomplished 4 minutes. The video below is what I would call, a modified weighted burpee workout. This exercise should only be done with light weight and the emphasis is on endurance rather than strength. If you do this workout, you will feel as if you completed an aerobics class. Especially for those guys to rough and tough for aerobics. This is something anyone can do, even on your lunch break in your office. Give this a try and enjoy.

Can You Get Your Muscles Up With Muscle Ups?

Posted in Back Workouts, Chest Workouts on the September 28, 2007

In my opinion, no. Muscle ups are a variation of pull-ups that involve the actual body going above the pull-up bar into a vertical pushup. Now with that very Webster like description, I should also tell everyone, I really don’t like this exercise. The reason I don’t is actually explained in this video. This exercise incorporates to much momentum. The better a person can throw their bodyweight, the better this will be performed. There are some core benefits to this workout, but the throwing and motion of this movement negates much of the direct muscle benefits. However, I will say this, this video is post worthy due to it goes in depth in explaining the momentum and how the exercise works. Add this to your workout if you like, I personally won’t, but others have stated to me that they love them Enjoy.

300 Workout, Is it Fad or True Fitness?

Posted in Full Body on the September 28, 2007

Well, this is a tough one to answer. As far as circuit training goes, it’s a hell of a circuit workout. Judging by the cast, the exercises works, but is it a workout that will last beyond the movies bravado? My answer is no. This is just hyped exercise fad from the movie although the workout and the people teaching it are legit. The guys over there at Gym Jones are skilled trainers and some of the best at it, but the flash of this 300 workout, will be short lived. As soon a the movie fades, so will the workout, but not the ideals. This is a bodyweight and drill based workout and that is a fundamental, not a fad. I just wish it wasn’t called the 300 workout, but guess what, this workout will resurface. It will return as either the Miami Beach Workout, the Ironman Workout, the new Indiana Jones Workout, or the Rocky #23 Workout. Whatever the reincarnation is called, it will be a great workout masked as a Hollywood quick fix.

Not Strong Enough For Pull-ups Yet?

Posted in Back Workouts on the September 26, 2007

One of the most frequent comments I get on Street Workout.Com is that some of my viewers don’t think they are up to the skill level of the individuals in these videos. I attempt to post videos that are inclusive to all skill levels and try to especially accommodate new and returning athletes. Chin-ups and pull-ups are foundation exercises to a bodyweight workout, but some just haven’t arrived to that point yet. This video will hopefully get you working towards that goal. This exercise is called a bodyweight row. It’s very good for beginners. This video is a perfect example of this startup exercise, coming from the guys over at Elite Fitness. Enjoy the video and give them a try.

Thugs Need Hugs and 6 Pack Abs?

Well, according to this video the answer is yes. These guys are part of the Ruff Ryder’s Workout Crew and specialize in what they call the Thug Workout. It’s a bunch of bodyweight exercises done in local parks by self proclaimed thugs. Although the language can get rough in these videos, these guys have some sound ideals when it come to free hand exercises. Except for a lack of leg exercises, this would almost be considered a comprehensive collection of calisthenic exercises. If you can get beyond the rough exterior of this video, you can get some great is deas that will benefit anyone wanting to start a home fitness program.
