In my opinion, no. Muscle ups are a variation of pull-ups that involve the actual body going above the pull-up bar into a vertical pushup. Now with that very Webster like description, I should also tell everyone, I really don’t like this exercise. The reason I don’t is actually explained in this video. This exercise incorporates to much momentum. The better a person can throw their bodyweight, the better this will be performed. There are some core benefits to this workout, but the throwing and motion of this movement negates much of the direct muscle benefits. However, I will say this, this video is post worthy due to it goes in depth in explaining the momentum and how the exercise works. Add this to your workout if you like, I personally won’t, but others have stated to me that they love them Enjoy.
Well, this is a tough one to answer. As far as circuit training goes, it’s a hell of a circuit workout. Judging by the cast, the exercises works, but is it a workout that will last beyond the movies bravado? My answer is no. This is just hyped exercise fad from the movie although the workout and the people teaching it are legit. The guys over there at Gym Jones are skilled trainers and some of the best at it, but the flash of this 300 workout, will be short lived. As soon a the movie fades, so will the workout, but not the ideals. This is a bodyweight and drill based workout and that is a fundamental, not a fad. I just wish it wasn’t called the 300 workout, but guess what, this workout will resurface. It will return as either the Miami Beach Workout, the Ironman Workout, the new Indiana Jones Workout, or the Rocky #23 Workout. Whatever the reincarnation is called, it will be a great workout masked as a Hollywood quick fix.
