A Personal Secret Exercise That I Will Share Just For Today.

Posted in Fitness Discussions, Back Workouts on the November 1, 2007

I enjoyed this post so much as the Exercise Video of the Day at Street Workout that I felt it was necessary to post it here. This is a pull-up variation that I use, but in a slightly different way. This video features a pull-up hold concept using your feet on the ground as a spot. What they are doing is holding a pull-up position without actually doing the pull-up for about a minute which is completely torturous. What I personally do is what I’ve deemed, punishment pull-ups. I do a regular set of pull-ups, (any grip) adding a hold pull-up into the set. For example, if I’m doing 15 reps, I will do 3 hold pull-ups somewhere in that 15 reps. The hold consist of just holding the pull-up at the top of the contraction. It hurts, bad! In this case I usually don’t do as many sets, somewhere in the range of 5 sets total. Give them a try, this is a secret pull-up of mine. Enjoy.

Should I Use Kettlebells And What Size Should I Get?

Posted in Full Body, Fitness Discussions on the November 1, 2007

Kettlebells are traditional Russian cast iron weights that look like bowling balls with big handles. However beyond their appearance lies a system of exercise that can benefit anyone of any skill level seeking better overall fitness. Many of the Kettlebell workouts feature completely different exercises, never seen by athletes in other parts of the world other than one behind the Iron Curtain. One specific question this video immediately addresses is the question of what weight to use for beginners. This video answers this question pretty well, giving examples of each weight and who should use them. This is a very educational video today, so watch, be informed, and go to the Street Workout Kettlebell section and get yourself some Kettlebells.
