Although it may not quite feel like summer here in the mid-west, it is technically that time of the year. Time to pull out the beach slippers, big umbrellas and the coolers with something refreshing in them. This is a typical day at the beach for most. Many don’t think of the beach as a prime place for an excellent workout. But it is! There are many unconventional routines that can be done that will bring a whole new perspective to your workout and give you a great change of scenery, not to mention getting some sun in your system. This video below, done with kids no less, gives a great set of drills that can be done with a simple hill. Many beaches have these simple inclines that are great for resistance and endurance based exercise. This video has completely inspired me to really up my hill sprinting game by adding some of the variations shown. Now if I could just get the mid-west weather to bless me with an acceptable beach climate, I might be able to get that started. Oh well, patience is a virtue. Enjoy the video anyway.
There have probably been about 6 million articles written on how to achieve that ever illusive, always appealing washboard stomach. Behind the terms “weight loss”, “six pack abs” is one of the next most searched terms when it comes to the subject of fitness. Yet the reality is, for this to be so widely researched and sought after, so many people don’t know how to achieve it. I often get asked “what exercises can I do to get my abs to show?”. My reply is two part. First change your diet. Diet is about 85-90% of you makeup. You truly are what you eat. A low fat, low sugar, high protein diet is needed. The second part of the answer is to do some sort of anaerobic workout, be it sprints, tabata, mountain climbers or speed jump rope. The videos below are of our old friend Unique Anderson from Energy Fitness in NYC. She is doing some sprint drills that are a perfect combination of speed, power and core movement that will make that body fat disappear. No sit ups needed here folks. Just hardcore drills and sore glutes. Enjoy.
David Letterman has been an icon on the late night scene for years. Is it his sarcastic wit, his gap tooth signature laugh or maybe just those infamous top ten list. Going with the logic of it being the top ten list, I hope to be around for at least half of his tenure. At one point, you couldn’t escape the internet Diggs column top ten list of everything under the sun. Now that the fad has somewhat fizzled out, I am quickly remembering why most people liked them. They are useful and interesting. In the case of today’s video, a top ten list of bodyweight exercises, it is compiled of some very helpful and fundamental movements. Kevin Gianni presents them in his usual energy and informative manner, along with a dash of fun. All of this is why he is a mainstay on youtube and one of the best internet trainers out. Enjoy the info.
Going along with the theme that I have on the main Street Workout Site today, I’m doing something that I’m probably overdue. Keeping it simple and giving some great exercises that don’t require a gym membership, personal trainer, or 15 easy payments of $199.99, home fitness equipment. How about some old fashion mountain climbers? For those who don’t remember this exercises, just think back from middle school to high school when the gym coach would yell out for everyone to get down and start doing these. Think about the collective sighs of 25 teenagers all dreading this famous will breaking exercise. Although it’s not quite as bad as I remember them, they are still a challenge non the less. Watch this short video and add them to your routine if only for a month and see the results. These are truly loved and hated for a reason!!
When it is apparently your first time on a treadmill and your relative/friend decides to play practical jokes. How about we do our best impression of Chef Emeral and kick this up a notch by video taping it. Let’s see, funny event and I got it on video, what else should I do. Can’t you just hear the Jerry Springer audience yelling Youtube, Youtube, Youtube! And that puts us right here, right now with a long over due hilarious video. My viewers needed this break. Lots of hard fact documentaries and lectures as of late. How about a good old fashion laugh. Enjoy.
